Located on a side street only a couple blocks away from downtown Northampton, is the creative and unique Salon 241. Co-owner, Katie Clifford, says they’ve been open for 11 years, and just recently moved to this space and had the whole place revamped. Their new space is very vibrant and welcoming, which has a modern yet natural feel to it. Not to mention the friendly staff who add to the warm ambiance of the salon!
As you walk into the salon, you might notice an array of materials that have been uniquely crafted throughout their store. Most of these materials are reclaimed, and each one has had special thought and care put into it. Katie decided to use reclaimed building materials as part of her décor because she enjoys “the warmth that natural things bring to a space.” She shopped at EcoBuilding Bargains to find most of these items, per the recommendation of Sticks & Bricks owner, Liz, who also helped craft some birch light fixtures for the salon.
Katie mentioned that EcoBuilding Bargains wasn’t too far away, and it only took a couple of truckloads to get the materials to the salon. She found “the staff extremely helpful and creative, helping [her] think things through.” The rustic, wooden cabinets – which she mentions are her favorite piece in the store – “were very affordable compared to normal cabinetry, which tends to be more expensive.” On top of that, Katie noted that buying reclaimed materials is “better for the environment.”
Other materials that Katie found at EcoBuilding Bargains include a sliding barn door, corbel sconces, glass blocks, old parts of gymnastic equipment turned into coat hooks, and other pieces of wood that have been crafted into shelves or tables. Most of these items have been repurposed in some way, and add to the originality of the creatively designed space!
Salon 241 focuses mostly on hair, lashes, body waxing, and natural nails. They boast many services and friendly staff, as well as ample parking, and a COVID safe atmosphere. Stop by for a trim or a manicure soon, and check out their amazing décor while you’re there!
