What better way to celebrate the warm weather than with an outdoor party? Serving trays are functional and provide a great accent piece for your party. Repurposing a single cabinet door into a serving tray is perfect for serving cold drinks and/or appetizers for your guests. We purchased reclaimed single cabinet doors, paint, and handles from EcoBuilding Bargains!

Materials Needed:

  • Salvaged cabinet door(s)
  • Handles
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pen
  • Drill
  • Screws

Step One

Turn over your cabinet door so the back side is facing front. Using a ruler, measure the placement of each handle, so that they are equidistant from each other.

Step Two

Drill holes in the places previously marked with the ruler.

Then, drill in the screws.

Step Four

Turn over the cabinet door to the front side and finish drilling the screws into the handles.

Step Five

Now, that the handles are in place, it is time to paint! Clean the surface of your cabinet door to get rid of any debris. Then decide how you want to design your cabinet door and use tape to section off the spaces you do not want to be painted.

Step Five

Depending on the type of wood your cabinet door is made out of, it may need a couple of coats of paint.

Step Six

Wait for the paint to dry.

Then, peel the tape off, and decorate your tray with anything you like!
