Are you looking for a way to display your most memorable photographs? Instead of purchasing something new, save some money and resources by following these instructions to upcycle reclaimed door hinges into picture holders. This upcycle project will add the perfect rustic touch to your space!

These door hinges were purchased from EcoBuilding Bargains, the largest reclaimed building materials store in New England. You can shop for reclaimed door hinges in store or online through our eBay store! We love this craft because it is really simple and only requires a few easy to acquire materials.

For this craft you will need the following materials:

  • Door Hinges
  • Magnet Tape
  • Twine
  • Scissors

Step 1: Measure out a strip of magnetic tape that is the same length as your door hinge.

Step 2: With scissors, cut the magnetic tape. Peel the film off the back of the magnet, and stick it to the door hinge. Make sure to stick it to the side of the door hinge that presses together when it is closed. This is how it will hold your photo in place.

Step 3: Cut the twine to your desired length. The longer it is, the further down the photo will hang and vice versa. You can experiment with this to see what length works best for you.

Step 4: Finally, tie the twine on both sides of the door hinge in a knot, making sure it is secure.

You can also upcycle your door hinges into picture holders that stand upright. Some door hinges can stand up on their own, like the bronze one pictured in the materials section above. To do this, simply follow steps 1 and 2 above and then display your artwork!

You can also stop after step 2 and allow your hinge to stand on its own

It’s that simple! Make sure to check out our blog for even more creative reuse crafts.
